Motherwell have confirmed that Nadir Ciftci will be returning to Celtic in early June when his loan deal at Fir Park officially expires.

The Scottish Cup and League Cup runners-up announced on their official website on Monday that Ciftci, 26, will see his loan deal reach it’s end in a matter of weeks and he is due back at Celtic Park.

The Turkish centre-forward was signed by Motherwell in January and made 15 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring just three goals.

OPINION

Ciftci’s career looks as though it has hit a wall and he needs to leave Parkhead on a permanent basis this summer if he was to look back on his playing days without regret. The 26-year-old has been a terrible player for Celtic and has been constantly sent out on loan as he is so far down the pecking order with the Scottish champions. Ciftci will enter the final year of his contract this summer and if no one looks to make an offer to buy him, Brendan Rodgers should see if the striker would agree to a mutual termination. It’s mad to think that he was handed the number seven shirt when he first arrived in 2015 off the back of a half-decent season at Dundee United. Maybe the Terrors could re-sign their former hitman to help them get out of the Championship. There will surely be someone who is willing to sign up the goalshy forward.
