Wolves are interested in signing FK Krasnodar attacker Fyodor Smolov, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that Wolves, along with Fulham, have checked the 28-year-old centre-forward out in recent weeks and are now in the race to try and sign him.

The Daily Mail report that Smolov’s prolific form this season has captured a lot of clubs attention, as he has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Krasnodar in Russia’s top-flight.

It is believed that the Russian club would accept £12million for his services in the summer, even though they rejected a £11million bid from West Ham for him in December.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes.

Smolov is clearly a forward, who has an eye for goal, and with Wolves set to be in the Premier League next season, they need to add top-quality players to their squad.

The 28-year-old, who is also Russia’s captain, has all the skills on the pitch to be a success in England’s top-flight and is already fluent in English.

Considering how expensive prolific forwards are to buy, £12million seems like a bargain price to pay for Smolov.

Likely to happen?

The Daily Mail’s report along with revealing Wolves and Fulham’s interests, suggests West Ham could still be interested as they’ll be looking for a striker in the summer.

The newspaper also claim that Zenit St Petersburg are keen on Smolov but that teams in England’s top-flight have the edge over Zenit, as the forward wants to test himself in the Premier League.

However it still sounds like Wolves are not close to bidding just yet, as the Daily Mail go onto to state that they’re considering other unnamed options too.

Although when Wolves scouts were in attendance Smolov scored twice for his club, so after witnessing his form first hand if their interest is real they will bid soon.
