West Ham fans have been reacting on social media after a club insider shared a cryptic tweet simply reading, “Marlon Marlon Marlon,” on Tuesday afternoon.

ExWHUemployee, who is a reliable source of information regarding all things involving the Hammers, sent the message which followed speculation from Spanish media outlet, Mundo Deportivo, that the club were interested in signing on loan Barcelona defender Marlon, after the 22-year-old spent the season on loan at Nice.

To back up his social media post after supporters kicked up a fuss about the news, Ex went into further detail about his earlier post and confirmed there was “genuine” interest in the defender.

The Brazilian has a two-year loan deal at the French Ligue 1 club but after impressing in his first term, the Irons were named as the favourites in Mundo Deportivo to sign the centre-back.

It is a position which new manager Manuel Pellegrini will be keen on reinforcing after seeing James Collins shown the exit door and the fact that they had the worst defensive record all season in the whole of the Premier League.

And it is likely to be an exciting summer for the club following assurances from the powers that money will be spent as well as a report in The Mirror which revealed that a £75million transfer kitty will be made available.

Here is a selection of reactions on Twitter from supporters in response to the social media post:
