Tottenham are set to battle Chelsea and Everton for Spartak Moscow midfielder Fernando, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 26-year-old defensive midfielder’s impressive displays this season have caught the eye of the Premier League trio, who are all looking to bolster their midfield options in the summer.

The Sun report that Spartak, who are still in with a shout of winning the Russian Premier League title this campaign, are resigned to losing Fernando as he wants to test himself in one of Europe’s elite leagues.

It is believed that the Russian giants want £22million for the midfielder’s services, but hope a bidding war for his signature will be sparked as so many clubs are interested.

Aside from Spurs, the Toffees and Chelsea, The Sun state that Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are also hot on Fernando’s trail.

Good move for Tottenham?

Potentially.

Fernando has dazzled everyone in the 36 appearances he has made for Spartak this season, but there’s a question mark on how he would fair in the Premier League.

There have been several players who have jumped from Russia’s top division to England’s top-flight only to crash and burn.

While there have been a few exceptions, Spurs can hardly be confident that the midfielder’s form from this season will continue in England for the next campaign.

Likely to happen?

The Sun’s report suggests there could be a place for him in Mauricio Pochettino’s if Mousa Dembele is sold in the summer, and the Belgian international’s exit would certainly increases the chances of Fernando’s arrival.

However at this stage and with plenty of teams keen on the 26-year-old, Spurs’ interest may just be casual and nothing will amount from it.
