Tottenham are reported closing in on signing Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig – and that will be an outstanding piece of business by Mauricio Pochettino.

Spanish news outlet Sport claims that Spurs are in advanced talks to sign Puig, 18, this summer and if everything goes to plan, he will be pulling on the Spurs shirt next season.

It is understood that a final decision is yet to be made though and Puig has other offers on the table, but that should not deflect attention from what will be a brilliant signing by Pochettino, who is on the verge of a masterstroke.

Puig has been in top class form in the UEFA Youth League this season and he has made several appearances for Barcelona B, who play in the second-tier of Spanish senior football, the Segunda League.

At the age of 18, Puig has been impressive and it is understood that he wants to leave Catalonia in order to get himself more chances.

Tottenham is one of the best places for him to do that with Pochettino always looking to call up young players when he needs to and with the strength of lower league football in England, it should be easy for the teenager to find a decent loan move to the Championship if he needs the game-time.

After helping Barca win the UEFA Youth League with ease by breezing past Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea in the final, Spurs are close to signing a very promising talent and it is one that all fans should be looking forward to.
