There would have been cheers from all over the Lilywhite half of north London on Thursday when Tottenham announced Mauricio Pochettino’s long term contract.

The Argentine boss is a firm favourite at Spurs, having been a catalyst during their impressive rise to fame, but with the likes of Real Madrid said to be sniffing around, his future was not entirely clear.

A move to the Bernabeu might have been somewhat far off considering Zinedine Zidane is still in the dugout but it would have still been a relief to the Tottenham faithful to see their key man put pen to paper until 2023.

With a perfect start to summer, the supporters will be wondering what is to come next – and if reports are to be believed, then Daniel Levy might just have pulled off the deal of the decade with Pochettino.

The London Evening Standard claim that following the manager’s commitment to the long term plan at Spurs, six of the club’s top stars are set to follow suit and tie themselves down to the club for the foreseeable future.

The half-a-dozen names who look set to sign are Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Hugo Lloris, Heung-min Son and Jan Vertonghen, and Pochettino has over half of his starting XI right there.

To have such massive names willing to stay on at Spurs despite a lack of silverware as yet is huge, and is perhaps the most important thing for the club this summer – all thanks to Pochettino’s new deal.

If they all commit to improved contracts over the next couple of months, then Levy deserves heralding for pulling off the deal of the century at Spurs – and after years of growth and improvement, the future continues to look bright for the Lilywhites.
