Everton are reportedly in the hunt to sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose this summer as they aim to take advantage of top-six Premier League club’s cooling their interested in the England intentional.

The Sun has claimed that Manchester United and Manchester City are both eyeing up Rose, 27, with Spurs prepared to offload the left-back in the summer transfer window.

However it is understood that Everton could “steal a march” on the Premier League heavyweights and launch a £40million swoop for the defender as a replacement for long-term mainstay Leighton Baines, who is said to be attracting attention from the USA.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has slapped a major price-tag on Rose, but that may not be enough to stop Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri from proving that he is not willing to mess around at Goodison Park.

The Toffees spent big last summer and broke the £40million barrier when they snapped up Gyfli Sigurdsson from Swansea.

Spending over £40million for a second year in a row will prove that Moshiri means business and he is not willing to watch the top-six move further and further away from the rest of the Premier League.

Rose would be a brilliant signing to spend that sort of money on.

The left-back has played a major part in helping Spurs become regular title contenders with his marauding displays on the left-flank.

Ben Davies has been impressive though in the last couple of years and Rose’s admission that he feels he and his team-mates aren’t paid enough dug his own grave with hardball negotiator Levy, who has proven he will never give in to player power.

Tottenham’s loss would certainly be Everton’s gain though.

It’s time for the Blues to start revamping their squad by clearing out the old guard and welcoming in players with real talent that can close the gap between themselves and the top six.
