While Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino might be feeling pretty pleased with the squad he has built up during his time in north London, there will be one issue which is bothering him heading into the summer.

The Argentine boss has a great deal of quality in depth running through his side, but there can be little argument that behind Harry Kane, there is just not the talent of centre forward needed to mount a serious challenge on either the domestic or European stage.

Fernando Llorente was the man brought in last summer to try and help the red hot England striker but he simply did not live up to expectations, and when Kane was injured in 2018, it was Heung-min Son, not the Spaniard, who took his place.

The South Korean forward is a hard worker and has the talent to put the goal in the back of the net, but he himself would admit he is not a natural replacement, highlighting the issue that Pochettino has on his hands.

As such, getting rid of Llorente and Vincent Janssen, another failed experiment, is a must, and sourcing a new striker is crucial – and to solve their problems, they should be looking at a Premier League rival.

The Sun claim that Europa League winners Atletico Madrid are in hot pursuit of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann this summer, but it should be England’s capital, not Spain’s, which the 31-year-old moves to this summer.

The Premier League speed machine scored 23 goals across all competitions in the season just gone, but with the Foxes failing to hit the desired heights, a move may well be on the cards.

While Spain might sound tempting, the opportunity to remain fighting in England’s top flight is likely to be more up Vardy’s street, and it would give Kane some real competition up top after two seasons of ruling the roost.
