Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has revealed his plans for the summer transfer window are to remain with the Magpies in the Premier League.

The Spaniard was among one of many of the club’s stars who managed to transform their performances during the second half of the season and after finishing 2017 with just one Premier League goal under his belt, he managed to net nine from the turn of the new year, leaving him as the top scorer for Rafael Benitez’s men.

His displays had led to some talk of a potential exit for the 24-year-old but after turning out in all but two of the club’ top flight games, he has confirmed his intentions to remain with Newcastle.

He was quoted by Radio MARCA Tenerife, on their Twitter account, as saying: “Today I have no plans to leave England, I’m very comfortable at Newcastle and in the Premier League, it’s very professional football, I’m already a little bit English.”

Opinion

Perez was one of numerous players who completely turned their form around in the second half of the season and it was this which helped the Magpies pull off a top 10 finish come the end of the campaign. His goals, which included a sublime chip to secure three points away at Leicester, were pivotal to success, and he certainly appears a favourite of manager Benitez. Now he must spend the summer looking to improve on his weaknesses and continue to grow his strengths, for, if his boss gets his way, there will be much more competition coming his way in the form of new recruits. Still, Perez has certainly made a claim for a starting berth next season and Benitez will be happy to hear one of his main men committing his future at St James’ Park – and Perez will be hoping to hear the same from his fellow countryman before too long.
