Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has given Jurgen Klopp his assurances that he will be given sufficient funds to spend this transfer window – and it is news that will thrill supporters of the club.

The Reds already have Naby Keita on the list of arrivals following his reported £52.75million move from RB Leipzig while the manager has also been linked with a move for Jorginho as a replacement for Emre Can, who looks certain to leave the club this summer following a report in The Guardian.

Meanwhile, there are also suggestions that Nabil Kekir is the man to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho.

As quoted in the Liverpool Echo, Werner said: “I am excited to see Naby Keita join the club this summer and I can only promise our supporters that we will continue to improve the squad.

“Whatever happens on Saturday night, we will ensure we have a strong squad to compete for trophies next season which will have even more depth.

“We will make decisions that will improve the team and we will sign players who make us even more successful.”

OPINION

Klopp could not really get better news from the board who are clearly keen to back their manager who has repaid the faith shown in him by maintaining their top-four status and taking them to the final of the Champions League. These are the kind of assurances that are not only great news for those in charge but for supporters too. Every fan wants to hear that the top brass want to take their club to the next level, that they want to compete and so far the board have delivered in terms of providing the finances but also by spending on the right kind of players. So with it looking as though with a pledge like that Klopp will be given the funds for the signing of Fekir, the Red are going to become even stronger in attack – a rather ominous thought for the rest of the Premier League. We expect Liverpool to rival Manchester City for the title next season.
