Mark Lawrenson heaped praise on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson for his performances this season and suggested the left-back’s value had significantly increased as a result.

The BBC pundit shared that he couldn’t remember Robertson having a bad game during the current campaign and claimed his transfer value had skyrocketed due to this.

“I cannot remember a poor game from him,” Lawrenson told BBC Scotland, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“What was it – £8.5m [initial £8m] or something [they paid for him]? He is probably times that by five at the moment.”

By Lawrenson’s calculations the 24-year-old is worth in the region of £40million, despite the Reds only paying an initial £8million to Hull City, as reported by the BBC, for his services.

The BBC pundit continued waxing lyrical about Robertson’s ability and claimed that the Reds would have a better indication of how good he is by the end of next season.

“I tell you what, no-one has taken him apart as yet, the quality of his passing and crossing is outstanding.” stated Lawrenson.

“He is an extremely fit individual; he just looks like a player that doesn’t give a problem to the manager and gets on with it.

“He has done absolutely brilliantly, we saw a brief glimpse of him at the start of the season and then he disappeared.

“He has got all the tools, we will probably have a better indication at the end of next season. I always judge a player over two years.”

The left-back has made 27 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side across all competitions this season.

OPINION

After having a rocky start to life at Anfield after joining from Hull City ahead of the current season, it would be hard to picture a Reds side without him. Robertson is a tremendous talent, who at the age of 24-years-old has the word at his feet and Reds supporters will hope he fulfils his full potential at Anfield. Robertson has been able to solve the club’s left-back problems, which seemed to help ruin any chance of success in the last few campaigns. In fact it wasn’t that long ago that James Milner was the club’s first-choice left-back, despite being naturally a midfielder. While the experienced English central midfielder didn’t cover himself in shame, it’s nice the club have a proper option to play every week in the form of Robertson. Lawrenson highlighted the defender’s crossing and passing ability, which gets every football expert gushing. However it should be noted that Robertson is a left-back who is more than capable of pulling his weight for the side defensively.
