Stoke City manager Paul Lambert heaped praise on Liverpool Andy Robertson and tipped the defender to only get better.

The Premier League boss delivered a glowing verdict on the 24-year-old and shared that he thought the left-back had the hunger needed to continue to improve.

“I think you need that hunger,” Lambert told the Evening Times.

“You can have all the ability in the world but you need to have that desire to get better, he has clearly knuckled down and he is getting his rewards.

“It hasn’t been an easy path for him and you have to respect what he has done and how he has got there.

“He is still young, he is only 24 so there is so much still to come from him. It is fabulous for him (being in Champions League final) and it is great for Scotland too.”

Lambert was talking about his fellow Scot, Robertson, as he revealed that he thought with the Reds being in this season’s Champions League final, it could have a life changing affect on the defender.

OPINION

Lambert waxes lyrical about Robertson and seems to have an endless amount of good words to say about the left-back. This shouldn’t be news to Reds supporters as they’ve no doubt been convinced by Robertson’s talents this season. The 24-year-old has been a revelation, in a once problem position for Jurgen Klopp’s side, by delivering some memorable performances during the 27 appearances he has made in the current campaign. Lambert is right to suggest that it would be fantastic if the defender got to lift the Champions League this season. However this is a risk to achieving such a prestigious honour so young. Sometimes it causes footballers to rest on their laurels as they already feel like, football has gotten as good as it will for them. This probably won’t be the case for Robertson though, based on Lambert’s thoughts. The 24-year-old, who already has 21 caps for Scotland, has worked hard to rise through the ranks of football and he won’t give up on chasing trophies until he retires.
