Mauricio Pochettino has put pen to paper on a new five year deal with the club that will see him remain in North London until 2023 and according to Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard more will follow the manager’s lead.

The reporter revealed the news behind Poch’s contract on his personal Twitter account where he stated that Spurs’ Argentinian manager was promised by chairman Daniel Levy that there would be money to spend on transfers so that the club can progress.

Levy has faced a lot of criticism in the past for not pumping enough funds into improving the squad, however that now appears to be changing with Pochettino’s new deal wrapped up.

OPINION

What a day for Tottenham fans! After seeing their rivals land Unai Emery, it would seem that Daniel Levy has carefully chosen his moment to unveil this news. Poch is vital for Spurs and if they are going to end their status as the Premier League’s bridesmaids – based on the fact that they get so close but always end up being the runners-up  – then they need the 46-year-old at the helm going forward. To hear that in addition, there will be others putting pen to paper is amazing news for the club, but the fact that Levy has given Pochettino his assurances on the financial front that will allow the club to go into the transfer market in pursuit of going to the next level is an added bonus. For Spurs supporters, it must be like all their Christmas’ have come at once. Now it is just a matter of time to see who will be next to agree new terms. Will it be Toby Alderweireld?
