Leeds United’s midfield is in need of sorting out over the summer and one of the things that the side has been criticised in the last year is the lack of grit and steel in the centre of the park.

While Ronaldo Vieira is tipped for a big future at Elland Road, he is not quite the end product that can help Leeds launch a successful promotion challenge next season.

Anything lower than sixth place will be a failure by the Whites and they must sign up some players with a solid understanding of the Championship in the summer.

One player that they must absolutely seal a swoop for is Republic of Ireland international David Meyler after it was confirmed that he will be leaving Hull City at the end of his contract.

Meyler, 28, is at the peak of his career and has won promotion to the Premier League twice with Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals, meaning he would be a perfect addition to Paul Heckingbottom’s side for the 2018/19 campaign.

Hull announced on their official website on Friday that Meyler will be leaving the KCOM Stadium after six years of service.

He remained a key part in Nigel Adkins’ side this season as the Tigers managed to avoid relegation from the Championship, appearing 27 times across all competitions and scoring five goals.

Meyler is a very well-rounded midfielder who can play in a deeper-lying defensive role where he can break up play, or he can do a job as a box-to-box player, scoring goals, supplying assists and contributing to the defence.

His worth ethic, availability and experience of winning promotion would make him the perfect signing for Leeds in the summer.
