Baines expected to quit Everton with LA Galaxy and LAFC interested

|

Everton left-back Leighton Baines looks poised to quit Goodison Park in the summer transfer window with a “glamour” move to the MLS on the cards, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Baines, 33, is set to jet out to California soon after attracting attention from LA Galaxy and LAFC.

It is understood that Everton would terminate his deal a year early in order for him to move to the MLS on a free transfer.

Statistics website Spotrac reports that the former Wigan and England man earns £70,000-a-week in his deal at Goodison.

Good move for Everton?

Baines’ performances over the last couple of seasons have steadily got worse while injuries have also become a major problem for the left-back.

The 33-year-old has been a brilliant servant for the Toffees and will surely go down as one of their greatest ever full-backs after making over 400 appearances for the club in all competitions.

His set-pieces will be a thing of legend and while it will be sad to see him move on, it is best for all parties concerned that they go their separate ways.

Likely to happen?

Baines looks set to become the latest in a long-line of former England internationals to quit the Premier League in order to move to the States.

With both LA clubs interested in him, it seems likely that he will be on his way to California for good.

New director of football Marcel Brands will surely have to green light any more and he doesn’t officially take up his role until June 1.

The lack of manager could also drag out this deal, so it’s quite far away from being set in stone.
