West Bromwich Albion have made preliminary enquiries about making Sam Allardyce their next manager despite him being contracted to Everton until 2019, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Baggies have established contact as they are looking into the possibility of bringing the experienced manager to the Hawthorns if he departs his current position at the Toffees in the summer.

The Daily Mail report that while Allardyce, who earns in the region of £6million-a-year at Goodison Park, remains unpopular with supporters, the club’s top brass are pleased with his performance.

It is believed that Toffees officials have noted fans’ unhappiness regarding their manager, but that the club’s hierarchy have even aired the idea about extending his current contract.

The Daily Mail’s report goes on to state that while Allardyce revealed that he wouldn’t be receiving Farhard Moshiri’s blessing publicly, the Baggies will only continue to monitor his situation for now.

West Bromwich Albion currently sit bottom of the Premier League with only two games left to play, and look very likely to drop into the Championship for next season.

It’s unknown whether Allardyce, despite previously playing for the Baggies, would even be keen to takeover at the Hawthorns as the Daily Mail state that the manager might not been keen to drop down a division.

OPINION

This report is astounding on so many levels. Firstly the fact that the Baggies want Allardyce is confusing as caretaker boss Darren Moore has done nothing but bring joy back to the club. The Baggies looked dead and buried upon Alan Pardew departing as manager, but Moore has masterminded a comeback of epic proportions. While WBA only have a small chance of staying in England’s top-flight for next season, it’s better than the doomed feeling that surrounded the club previously. Also it’s an amazing claim by the Daily Mail that the Toffees have openly discussed the idea of extending Allardyce’s contract. Toffees supporters are very vocal about their dislike of their current manager and it would not go down well if he was set to be offered a new deal to say the least.
