Former Tottenham star Micky Hazard has accused reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with a move away from the North London club as being “fake news” after he signed a new deal on Thursday.

Spurs announced via their official Twitter account that Pochettino has agreed a new five-year deal with the club, just weeks after Sky Sports reported that Chelsea may make a move for the Argentine.

Hazard took to his personal Twitter account to give his instant reaction to the news on Thursday afternoon, and he seems over the moon with Spurs wrapping up a new deal with their manager with him being linked with leaving the club in recent weeks.

“What fantastic news. Poch to Madrid, Poch to Chelsea, Poch to Arsenal, on and on and on and on fake news. He’s signed a 5 year contract at Spurs. Love this man. Top man and top manager,” he said.

OPINION

It’s pretty clear that Hazard has completely misread reports about Pochettino as most of them have just said that he is wanted by these clubs, not that he will be quitting Tottenham in order to move to them. Pochettino is one of the best managers in Europe at the moment and supporters of those clubs should be worried if their owners are not looking at managers like him to lead their club. Spurs should just be happy to have him while they do because eventually he will leave for a new challenge. His comments at the end of the season did not sound too great but he has put them to bed by signing this new deal. Daniel Levy now needs to back him in the transfer market and give him the funds to build a team capable of winning the league. At the moment, Spurs are two or three star players short of mounting a major title challenge. Get them in and who knows what will happen.
