Marcel Brands can be expected to make a lot of changes at Everton over the summer after it was confirmed that the Dutchman had been appointed director of football at Goodison Park.
The ex-PSV director is bound to be busy in the coming weeks and months, but one thing he must do straight away is get on the phone to Marco van Ginkel after a stunning season on loan at the Philips Stadion.
Van Ginkel, who has been on loan from Chelsea, has been in devastating form for the Eindhoven club and should be made a priority signing for Everton in the upcoming transfer window.
The midfield goal machine netted 16 times in 33 appearances across all competitions for PSV this term as they won the Eredivisie title.
The Netherlands international also supplied five assists for the Dutch giants while wearing the captain’s armband.
Everton need some firepower and leadership in their midfield and van Ginkel would be the perfect addition for whoever is going to be the next manager at Goodison Park.
Football.London reports that Chelsea have slapped a £10million price-tag on van Ginkel’s head, which should be well inside Everton’s range going into the summer.
The Toffees cannot afford a repeat of this season in 2018/19 and it is vital that Brands gets this squad back up to scratch, otherwise is could be another season of turmoil and exits at senior level.
