Aston Villa have made a contract offer for Strasbourg centre-forward Stephane Bahoken with his deal at the Ligue 1 club due to expire next month, according to RMC Sport.

The French news outlet claims that Barnsley have also made a proposal for the Cameroon international, who is said to be attracting attention from France, Spain and Italy after a fine season for Strasbourg.

It is understood that Ligue 1 club Angers are in talks with the 25-year-old forward while Udinese, Espanyol and Montepellier are among some of the teams eyeing up a potential deal.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Bahoken is attracting a lot of interest with his deal set to expire next month and Villa will have to do well to see of clubs like Udinese, Espanyol and Montepellier to his signature with those clubs also said to be keen.

Relegated Barnsley should be out of the running after dropping down to League One so Villa could be the only English club with a chance of signing the striker.

Bahoken has scored nine goals in 31 games across all competitions this season, but he has been able to twice score against Paris Saint-Germain while also finding the net against Monaco and Lyon.

He is a big game player and will definitely do well for Villa, whether they go up or not.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on whether Villa are promoted or not. It’s hard to see how they could be offering out deals to players when their status for next season is not yet confirmed and Steve Bruce will surely have his attention 100 per cent focused on the game against Fulham this weekend.

Too many clubs seem interested in Bahoken and he will more than likely stay on the continent than move to the West Midlands.
