Gary Neville has given his instant verdict on Twitter after hearing that the Gunners are set to appoint former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla manager Unai Emery to the vacant managerial position.

It was reported via the BBC on Monday that the Spaniard was now the first choice for the position following a unanimous decision from the board.

As usual, the former Manchester United full-back turned TV pundit was as blunt as he is always is, and labelled the process it took to come to the decision “a mess” on Twitter but believes he will be “a good appointment.”

Neville wrote: “They’ve bounced all over the place on it ! However he’s a good appointment for Arsenal .. The process a mess..”

Opinion:

Neville is usually spot on when it comes to assessing the situation and he is here too. There seems to be no clear direction the club seems to be heading in. How can you switch from a wildcard such a Mikel Arteta was considered to be, to a man who struggled to hold together a team with Paris Saint-Germain’s superstars? If he could not get the best out of those players, how he can get the best out of the most comfortable team in the Premier League is only the board’s guessing. However, with every Tom, Dick, and Harry ruling themselves out of the running for the post, Arsenal did not have a massive selection of talented managers beating the door down, so it looks as though Emery is the best choice in terms of experience and silverware. Whether the Arsenal board will be as patient with him as they were with Arsene Wenger remains to be seen.
