BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that the best piece of business that Celtic can pull off this summer is keeping hold of centre-forward Moussa Dembele.

Dembele, 21, has been in dazzling form since signing for the Hoops in 2016, scoring 48 goals in 88 appearances across all competitions in two seasons.

The Frenchman has been a key player in helping Brendan Rodgers win the double-treble and Sutton believes that it is vital that the Parkhead club keep a hold of him in the summer transfer window.

“For me the best piece of business that Celtic could complete this summer would be holding on to Moussa Dembele,” said Sutton on the Daily Record website.

“The Frenchman may not have had as good a campaign as his debut season but he still bagged an impressive goals tally and helped Celtic have another magnificent season domestically by clinching the double Treble.

“Whenever Celtic were asked a question in big games this season they turned up. They stepped up domestically whenever they were challenged and Dembele more than played a major part.”

OPINION

There is bound to be more interest in Dembele this summer, and that is very understandable given how prolific he has been in Scotland since joining Celtic from Fulham in 2016. This season, the France Under-21 international’s performances have dropped a bit after a series of injuries and the increased competition with Odsonne Edouard also in the squad. However he is still a very talented forward and surely at least half of the Premier League would be interested in signing him in the coming months. Celtic’s major selling point to Dembele is that he will be assured of Champions League football. He is unlikely to be wanted by a top-four Premier League club so unless he moves to another European nation, his only real chance of playing in Europe’s top competition lies at Parkhead. There have not been any major reports about the 21-year-old potentially leaving yet, but there will be soon.
