Aston Villa attacker Ross McCormack will get a near-£1million bonus if Aston Villa are promoted to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster understands that the 31-year-old forward earns more than £2.3million-a-year while commitments in his deal, which still has two years left to run, could result in an automatic increase to more than £3million if Villa win the play-offs.

Sky Sports report that McCormack is still set to return to the Villans soon, after having a successfully loan spell away at the A-League’s Melbourne City.

The 31-year-old, who can feature as a secondary striker or a centre-forward, scored 14 goals in 17 appearances in the A-League for Melbourne ahead of them being knocked out of the post-season semi-finals by Newcastle Jets.

It is believed that Steve Bruce and the attacker had a number of disagreements, including one situation where the 31-year-old failed to report for training.

McCormack has not played a single league game for the Villans’ first-team this season, but that won’t affect his bonus.

OPINION

While the 31-year-old will clearly be rooting for the Villans to achieve promotion from the comfort of his sofa no doubt. McCormack’s time at Villa Park has been so awful that he has become forgotten at the club. The attacker was once one of the most potent attacking forces in the Championship, with Leeds United and Fulham, but now you would be excused if you thought he had retired. McCormack clearly has no future at the Villans, if he wants to play football again, and should look to move to revive his career. However it might be tempting for him to stay where he is, as the bumper paydays will keep coming even if he doesn’t feature again until the end of his deal.
