Leeds United have made their proposals to Hull City forward Abel Hernandez with his contract at the KCOM Stadium due to expire within a matter of weeks, according to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that the ball is now in Hernandez’s court as he mulls over his next move.

It is understood that the Whites have made the 27-year-old goal machine their “first choice” signing for the summer transfer window after the Uruguay international hit an impressive eight goals in 10 appearances across all competitions in an injury-ravaged campaign.

Good move for Leeds?

Hernandez will be available on a free transfer and has proved in his few appearances this season that he could be deadly in front of goal.

However the Uruguayan’s injury record proves that he may spend more time on the sidelines than on the pitch, which is not really what Leeds want after their three main January signings all spent time out injured with Tyler Roberts still yet to make a debut.

Hernandez could demand big wages, but given that he is available for free, he is probably a risk worth taking.

Likely to happen?

There’s no way that Leeds are the only club interested in signing the Hull forward so it may be very difficult for Victor Orta and Paul Heckingbottom to convince him that Elland Road is the place to be.

There are sure to be clubs that are willing to offer him more cash than the Whites, but will they be able to promise him a first team role?

Hernandez will surely walk straight into the current starting 11, and that is a big draw for someone who is so injury-prone.
