Leeds United have approached Serie B club Venezia about manager Filippo Inzaghi, according to Corriere di Bologna.

The Italian newspaper claimed in their print edition, as translated by Sport Witness, that the 44-year-old is one of the leading candidates to be the next Bologna boss, but Leeds are also said to have made a request about the former AC Milan and Juventus forward, who could earn back-to-back promotions with Venezia in the coming weeks.

Paul Heckingbottom has been in charge of the Whites since February and despite a less-than-convincing run of form, the former Barnsley man’s job does appear to be safe at the moment with there being little noise coming out of Elland Road to suggest that his future is at risk.

Good move for Leeds?

Inzaghi has had a mixed managerial career since his first job in charge of a first team at AC Milan. He did not last long in charge of the San Siro club before he was sacked in 2015.

Venezia hired the ex-Italy international in June 2016 and won promotion to Serie B in their first season with him at the helm.

In their first season back in the second-tier of Italian football, Inzaghi led Venezia to a fifth-placed finish and they are due to play their play-off semi-final against Perugia on Sunday.

The Italian has done a brilliant job with Venezia, but would he be able to repeat that success at Leeds? From the evidence he has provided in the last two seasons, you would have to say yes.

Likely to happen?

Andrea Radrizzani is likely to have a lot of links in Italy and there’s bound to be speculation linking managers from Serie A or Serie B to Elland Road due to the Italian businessman’s ownership of the Yorkshire giants.

There seems as though there’s absolutely no chance that Heckingbottom will be sacked as if Radrizzani was planning to do that, he surely would have already done so.

Inzaghi would be an unlikely replacement with Bologna interested in him so there’s no way this will happen.
