The board at Leeds United are set to make an imminent decision over the future of manager Paul Heckingbottom as he closes in on returning from his holidays, according to Leeds Live.

The website claim that the former Barnsley boss left Elland Road for a fortnight after tough discussions behind the scenes and that little has changed during his absence.

With rumours circulating about his potential exit, it is stated that the board will be looking to make a decision over the next seven days over whether Heckingbottom should continue in his role, with his return to the club penned in for Sunday.

The report also claims that if he is not disposed of immediately, then there will be a feeling that he will remain, and that the manager himself wants an end to the speculation.

Opinion

If Leeds are looking to get rid of Heckingbottom, then it can be expected that fans will not be made to wait much longer. His time at the helm has been a tumultuous one and it is easy to see why the board might want to change things going into the summer and next season. On the other hand, Heckingbottom himself will be keen to prove he has what it takes to succeed, and would have at least wanted one transfer window in charge to build up a side that he know can carry out his instructions. The silence at Elland Road is deafening and for the good of the club, the squad and the health of the fans, there needs to be a decision made sooner rather than later. The longer they leave it and the more uncertainty there is, the more difficult everything becomes, from negotiating transfers to the pre-season preparations.
