Leeds United have agree terms with defender Tom Pearce just a month before he was set to be released after doubts over his future, according to a journalist.

Freelance reporter Pete O’Rourke, who has established himself as a reliable source of information after working with the likes of ESPN and Football Insider, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 20-year-old left back had put pen to paper after being named among the retained list.

The youngster, who was something of a revelation in the senior side at Elland Road during the latter half of the season, with five appearances, was set to see his contract end at the end of the month, casting major doubts over whether he would commit his long-term future to the Whites.

OPINION

Pearce was one of a handful of youngsters who really shone in the first team where more senior stars struggled, and losing him would have been a major blow for a side so proud of their academy system. The Whites may have lost a whole host of homegrown talent through the years and while that is likely to continue for as long as they remain in the Championship, keeping the likes of Pearce, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and others will be important. Fans will be delighted to see him put pen to paper after usurping January signing Laurens de Bock in the starting XI and while there will likely be new recruits coming in over summer, the Elland Road faithful would no doubt like to see more of the youngster over the next 12 months.
