There were huge exceptions of Tottenham defender Serge Aurier when he joined the club last summer, but it would be fair to say things have not quite gone according to plan of him.

The 25-yer-old may be considered a flop after a difficult first season in England, which has highlighted the inconsistency and rashness to his game.

He moved to the North London club from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £23million and the jury is still very much out on him.

The Ivory Coast international is a powerhouse right-back that looks well suited to the Premier League, but he cost his side a penalty on Tuesday night in the 1-1 draw with Brighton and supporters have grown frustrated with his reoccurring mistakes.

Aurier has been vulnerable in the full-back area during his 24 appearances in the 2017/18 season and is currently behind teammate Kieran Trippier in the pecking order for the right-back slot.

However, Spurs fans must not completely give up on the defender and history suggests there is still much more to come in the future.

Trippier, Danny Rose, Ben Davies and current Manchester City ace Kyle Walker have all been beneficiaries under manager Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

The Argentinian boss has helped transform all four full-backs into some of the best in the Premier League and refined their game.

Spurs get a lot of success out wide and Aurier has shown he can provide a threat in attacking positions, scoring two goals and three assists to date.

However, Pochettino may just need to improve his defensive ability and the club could have a real player on their hands this time next year once the manager has worked his magic.
