West Ham are reportedly interested in Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson, but should step up their pursuit and try to secure him a summer move to the London Stadium as soon as possible.

The Guardian’s deputy news editor Ed Aarons has reported on his personal Twitter account that the Hammers are keen on landing the Championship ace.

David Moyes’ side certainly need to make this happen and the 27-year-old would be exactly the type of player they need ahead of the next campaign.

West Ham need to bolster their ageing backline at the end of the season and focusing on the Elland Road sensation would be very smart.

Jansson has been a revelation at Leeds in the last two years and looks far too good to be playing Championship football.

The Sweden international is a no-nonsense centre-back that is renowned for his physical presence and leadership qualities, while he also loves a tackle.

He would be the perfect fit for West Ham and the defensive colossus is exactly the sort of character that would become an instant favourite with supporters.

Jansson is a fully committed player that wears his heart on his sleeve and that is why the Leeds fans adore him, but the fact he was named in the 2016/17 Championship team of the season highlights he has the quality to back it up.

The ball-playing centre-back is usually composed in possession and looks primed to make a step up in his career to the Premier League.
