Aston Villa overcame Leeds United 1-0 at Villa Park on Friday evening to guarantee a Championship play-off spot, and fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the display of Mile Jedinak.

Striker Lewis Grabban scored the only goal of the game when he rose to head home Jack Grealish’s pinpoint cross after 29 minutes.

Leeds slowly came back into the game but struggled to create any chances of note, with Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone having a quiet night between the sticks.

His counterpart, youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell, had a busy evening, being called into action several times to keep Leeds in the game at 1-0.

A double save from goalscorer Grabban and Jonathan Kodjia, who was starting for the first time since returning from injury, was particularly impressive from the Northern Ireland youth international.

Villa’s win has guaranteed them a spot in the play-offs and they are looking good for a home tie in the second leg of the semi-finals, holding an eleven-point lead over fifth-placed Derby, who have five games left to play.

Fans took to Twitter after the game to praise the performance of Australia international enforcer Jedinak, 33, who has been filling in for John Terry at centre-back for the Villans.
