Tam McManus has launched a scathing attack on Rangers first teamer Alfredo Morelos following his performance in the defeat to Celtic.

The 21-year-old centre-forward endured a day to forget at the weekend when the Gers slipped to a humiliating 4-0 loss to their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Graeme Murty’s side were completely played off the park by the Hoops and were not helped by a Ross McCrorie red card in the second-half.

The Ibrox outfit have seen their last hope of silverware for the season slip away in emphatic fashion and supporters were left furious after Sunday.

BBC pundit McManus has singled out Morelos for his individual efforts against Celtic and labelled him “bang average”.

He struggled to impact the game for large spells and was extremely wasteful in front of goal when presented with a couple of opportunities.

McManus even claimed that Rangers were in the wrong to knock back a reported £8million bid in January for his signature.

“I’m not usually right but I am on Morelos. If Rangers did indeed knock back £8million for him (doubtful) whoever sanctioned it should be immediately chased from Ibrox. Bang average. And a stinking attitude towards his team mates to boot,” McManus wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Morelos definitely endured a day to forget against Celtic and unfortunately he let his opponents get under his skin. The striker has managed 18 goals across all competitions this season, but remarkably his finishing is still suspect and that was evident at the weekend. However, the wave of criticism that has been thrown at him after the Old Firm defeat seems over the top and he was not the only Gers player to fall well short of their usual standard. Morelos is still aged just 21 and that is something that is usually forgotten by most. He still looks on course to score 20-plus goals during his debut season at Ibrox and that would be some achievement.
