Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has jetted out to Qatar to receive specialist treatment on his ongoing ankle problems.

The 22-year-old central midfielder has not made a Premier League appearance for Tottenham since a Boxing Day win over Southampton, with his only appearances this calendar year coming in the FA Cup.

Winks’ most recent appearance was on the 28th of February against Rochdale at Wembley, with his niggling ankle problem devastating his chances of an England call up for the World Cup.

It has now been revealed that Winks has travelled to Aspetar hospital in Doha to receive specialist treatment:

Aspetar is described as the ‘world’s leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital’ on their website.

OPINION

It has been a seriously disappointing second half of the season for Winks, who was in brilliant form for Tottenham in the early running. Domineering performances in the Champions League group stages had seen the youngster’s stock rise high, and a first England cap beckoned. However, this niggling ankle problem has halted that progress, and while it looked like Winks was nailed on to head to the World Cup this summer, that now looks out of the question. It may be that Winks’ season is over already, and he must turn his focus to getting fit for the start of next season instead.
