Jamie Redknapp has revealed that he thinks Manchester United’s Paul Pogba outclassed Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele when their sides met on Sunday.

Spurs suffered a 2-1 loss in their FA Cup semi-final against Man United on Sunday at Wembley, and the Sky Sports pundit claimed that Spurs’ 30-year-old central midfielder was brushed off by Pogba during the game.

“This was a statement from Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba,” wrote Redknapp in his column for the Daily Mail.

“Just look at how Paul Pogba brushed off Mousa Dembele, It is rare that you see a midfielder of Dembele’s calibre so effortlessly outclassed.”

Dembele only played 78 minutes of Spurs’ FA Cup semi-final as Maurico Pochettino replaced him with Victor Wanyama during the match.

The Belgian international has regularly featured for Spurs this season, playing 38 times, and has impressed many with his performances during this campaign.

In fact Redknapp, who believes the midfielder was “outclassed'” on Sunday, previously hailed the midfielder for his display against Man United earlier in the season.

“Tottenham had to contend with the loss of Harry Kane through injury against United, and they really missed Mousa Dembele until he came on after an hour,” he wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“Spurs were crying out for a presence in midfield — someone who would get on the ball and surge with it.

“Moussa Sissoko is not in the same league as Dembele in that respect.”

OPINION

Dembele has one bad game and everyone loves to draw attention to it. The Spurs midfielder was clearly not at the races on Sunday, but it won’t be long before pundits are heaping praise on the 30-year-old once again. Dembele has proven time and time again that he is important to Spurs’ success as no one else seems capable of winning the midfield battle for Spurs like the Belgian international does. While Redknapp is normally full of praise for Pochettino’s side, supporters probably won’t want to read his entire column for the Daily Mail on this occasion. Aside from questioning Dembele’s performance, the Sky Sports pundit suggested that nothing will change at the London-based club until the wage structure is drastically changed.
