Tottenham and Liverpool are set for a summer transfer battle over Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that Tottenham deployed scouts to watch Fernandes in action over the weekend, with the 23-year-old scoring the winner in a dramatic 4-3 victory.

The Mirror claim that Fernandes has a massive £87million release clause, and Sporting will demand the full amount if he is to leave the club this summer.

It is said that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is weighing up an offer for Fernandes.

Good move for Tottenham?

Absolutely.

Fernandes has been in mightily impressive form for Sporting this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 20 assists in 50 appearances.

Those kind of numbers cannot be ignored, and the 23-year-old’s stock is extremely high in Portugal right now, with the midfielder having broken into the national team this season.

Spurs are in need of another creative presence in midfield, with Christian Eriksen lacking a decent back-up, and Fernandes could be that man.

Likely to happen?

The biggest barrier to any move is Fernandes’ ridiculous £87million release clause.

Sporting are said to be holding out for the full amount, and while they may end up selling for less than that, the 23-year-old will still be expensive.

Whether Spurs are ready to shell out such a big amount for Fernandes is yet to be seen, with the club also looking to strengthen in other areas this summer.
