Mauricio Pochettino heaped praised on Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of his side playing Manchester United on Saturday.

The Spurs manager revealed that he thought the 26-year-old playmaker deserved credit for constantly improving every season, before sharing that he believes it is “massive” for the club to have a player like him.

“In the four seasons he’s played for us, he has improved in every season, more mature, more experienced,” stated Pochettino, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“He was so young when I arrived, now he’s a more mature player, that is one thing that is easy to recognise and to give him the credit.

“For me, you can compare him with special players like Kevin De Bruyne or David Silva. This type of player who is capable to play football and run and fight. That is a massive, massive value to have a player like Christian on the team.”

Eriksen has made 33 appearances for Pochettino’s side this season, scoring 14 goals, while creating 11 in his outings.

The attacking midfielder arrived at Spurs in 2013 from Ajax and is contracted to stay at the London-based club until 2020.

OPINION

Pochettino consistently gushes about Eriksen to the media and it is easy to see why. While there are so many fantastic players in Spurs’ squad to praise, Eriksen is one of the only few, who constantly delivers the goods. It should terrify opponents that he is only 26-years-old, as it’s still possible that he will get even better. Hopefully for Tottenham’s sake, Eriksen’s future is with them as the attacking midfielder is no doubt capable of winning silverware for the club. Pochettino’s decision to compare the midfielder with Manchester City’s title winning duo, De Bruyne and Silva, is more than warranted. The only worry when heaping praise on the midfielder publicly is that other clubs cannot ignore the fact that he might be a talent worth pursuing in the transfer market.
