Newcastle United fans on social media reacted to Arsenal confirming that manager Arsene Wenger was set to leave at the end of the season by urging the Gunners to stay away from Rafa Benitez.
The Gunners confirmed on Friday that Wenger was set to step-down as manager of their club at the end of this season, via a statement posted on the club’s official website.
The London club didn’t name a successor to Wenger when revealing the news, and simply confirmed that they will appoint a new manager as soon as possible.
With the Gunners’ next manager unknown at this time, it caused Magpies supporters to quickly urge their club to ensure Benitez stayed with them.
Several panicked Newcastle United fans took to Twitter to reveal that they were worried about the Gunners potentially making Benitez their next manager.
One fan tweeted that he was happy that Gunners fans didn’t want Benitez at their club as they weren’t going to get him anyway.
While another urged Mike Ashley to get his act together and sort out a new contract for the current Magpies manager to ensure his future was at St James’ Park.
This is Futbol have rounded up some of the best tweets about Benitez potentially going to Arsenal:

Of course it is. The powers that be at NUFC now need to pull all the stops out to get Benitez signed to a long term contract

I think arsenal will go for someone young with an arsenal connection, maybe viera or henry, or maybe both.

Always a worry, Ashley needs to get his finger out and sort Rafas new contract and/or get the club sold. I’m confident Rafa will stay and a takeover will go through this summer
