Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to win the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against AS Roma on Wednesday.

The former Reds striker revealed that he believes lightning wouldn’t strike twice for the Italian club and they will be unable to comeback against Jurgen Klopp’s side like they did against Barcelona in the last round.

“Roma are yet to concede a home goal in the competition so far this season, but I do not expect lightning to strike twice for the Italians despite their remarkable comeback against Barcelona from a similar three-goal deficit in the previous round,” wrote Owen in his predictions for BetVictor.

“Liverpool have scored 38 goals in the competition so far this season, which is an extraordinary achievement, and I expect them to add to that tally in the Italian capital on Wednesday.”

The Reds go into the second leg against Roma, having already established a 5-2 lead from the first leg at Anfield.

OPINION

Owen is bold to predict that the Reds will not only reach the Champions League final but that they will do it by winning against Roma in Italy. Klopp’s side will still reach the next round if they draw with Roma, but the retired striker clearly expects his former side to turn on the style. Owen refers to Roma’s excellent defensive record at home, but clearly it will be no match for the Reds’ front three. It’s hard to see any team in Europe currently stopping Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane scoring against them, as the three players are all in superb form right now. It will be a huge achievement for the Reds to reach Champions League final, and an even bigger one if they lift the trophy, as no one expected them to go this far in the competition.
