BBC pundit Martin Keown has raved about the impact of Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen after he was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Tottenham were second only to champions Manchester City after having three players nominated to the team, with Pep Guardiola’s side leading the way with five selections.

Eriksen followed attacking partner Harry Kane into the side while centre-back Jan Vertonghen’s consistent performances in the absence of Toby Alderweireld have also been recognised.

In a column for the Daily Mail, Keown has now lavished praise on Eriksen after his selection, saying: “It is a serious compliment to Eriksen that his fellow professionals count him in the same bracket as the Manchester City pair.

“This season he has decided to stand up and be counted. He is much more precise with his passing and is trying to hurt his opponents.

“Eriksen has gone in with the attitude that Harry Kane and Dele Alli will not take all the plaudits – he will be Tottenham’s main man, too.”

OPINION

Eriksen deserves all the plaudits coming to him for a season in which he has really pushed on to become an integral part of this Tottenham side. The Dane has registered 14 goals and 11 assists in a season which has seen Tottenham re-affirm their place among English football’s elite clubs. Many thought that playing at Wembley for a season would derail Tottenham’s charge to the top, but they have recovered from a dodgy start to sit on the verge of another top-four place and face an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on Saturday.
