PSV Eindhoven director of football Marcel Brands has claimed he will make a decision on his future soon amid heavy interest from Everton.

The Toffees are looking to revamp their recruitment department this summer and have reportedly targeted Brands as a replacement for current director of football Steve Walsh.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Eindhoven Dagblad, the transfer guru has now confirmed that he will decide soon whether to leave PSV this summer after eight years.

“I’m not going to wait too long and will soon make a decision. The decision has not yet been taken. It is difficult to leave all this behind. At PSV I work with people who I have cherished for years, and I know what I have here” he said.

The 56-year-old has gained a reputation as a brilliant talent-spotter in the Netherlands, and has just helped PSV to another league title as they took an unassailable lead at the top of the Eredivisie with a 3-0 win over Ajax at the weekend.

OPINION

Brands’ comments do not inspire confidence that he will decide to take on a new challenge at Everton this summer. The Dutchman obviously has massive ties to PSV, and will find it hard to make the decision to leave. It may be that he does indeed decide to stay, which will force the Toffees to look elsewhere this summer, and scupper their plans. Owner Farhad Moshiri is obviously keen to bring in some new faces at the end of the season, and along with Walsh, it looks like manager Sam Allardyce will be on his way too.
