Aston Villa attacker Gabby Agbonlahor could retire from football in the summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is considering all his options when deciding what to do next.

The Sun report that Agbonlahor could be one of many players departing Villa Park at the end of this season as Steve Bruce’s side could see a number of important players leave.

The 31-year-old, who can play as a centre-forward, left-winger as well as a secondary striker, has spent his entire career at the Villans.

Agbonlahor has made a total of 390 appearances for the club, scoring 86 goals, while also creating 56.

The Telegraph previously reported in March that the Villans were planning to offload the attacker who currently earns £25,000-a-week in the summer, but stated that Agbonlahor was considering relaunching his career in the MLS.

OPINION

It’s a shame that Agbonlahor’s 17-year stay at Villa Park is set to come to an end in the summer, however it’s the right decision for both parties. The 31-year-old has only made six appearances all season, with his last outing being back in December. So with the 31-year-old earning £25,000-a-week and being surplus to requirements, keeping him at the club due to past glories is a waste of money. Despite all this, it’s still quite a surprise that the Villans veteran is considering hanging up his boots. While he may not be needed at Villa Park anymore, he could easily relaunch his career in America by joining an MLS club. The 31-year-old is even capable of staying in England, but would have to realistically drop down to playing in League 1.
