If Leeds United are to launch a successful promotion bid next season in the Championship there is no doubt that they need to sign a new goalkeeper.

Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan have both failed to impress as the number one this campaign, while 21-year-old Bailey Peacock-Farrell is too inexperienced to lead a promotion charge.

It begs the question why the Whites let Rob Green leave last summer, but they now need to look to the future.

The Yorkshire giants are in desperate need of someone that can make an immediate impact at Elland Road and should plot a move for Liverpool shot-stopper Danny Ward.

Ward has been a fringe player for the Merseyside giants this season and featured just once at senior level.

However, the 24-year-old would be the perfect fit at Elland Road and showed his qualities in the last campaign out on loan with Huddersfield.

The Wales international played an integral role as the Terries were promoted via the play-offs to the Premier League and is extremely highly rated.

He kept 12 clean sheets during his 26 games with Huddersfield and would be a significant upgrade on the current Leeds options in goal.

Ward is now entering a crucial stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football and dropping down to the Championship would help him in the long run.

Leeds have a few players in their squad that are equipped for a promotion bid, but Paul Heckingbottom will need to add a good amount of quality if they are to improve on this season’s mediocrity.
