Everton are lining up Catania defender Luka Bogdan ahead of the summer, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Toffees are eyeing the 21-year-old centre-back as they begin to plot for the summer.

Bogdan currently plays in Italy’s third-tier of football for Catania and his side are second-placed in Serie C – C this season, which means they are still in the hunt for promotion.

The Croatian has been a mainstay in the backline this campaign and featured 25 times across all competitions.

Good move for Everton?

There is no doubt that Everton need some new centre-backs ahead of next season, but moving for Bogdan seems like a very strong move.

The defender is currently playing in the lower leagues of Italy and to expect him to make the big step up to the Premier League seems unreasonable.

He is still has room to grown as a 21-year-old, but there is no doubt Sam Allardyce’s side need to chase players that are already proven at the top level.

The Merseyside club need to bin Ashley Williams after his abysmal campaign, while Phil Jagielka is now aged 35 and Michael Keane has proven to be very inconsistent.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Everton would stretch to Serie C for their transfer targets and proved last summer that they are willing to splash the cash, but will want a much better return on the players they sign.
