Celtic Football Club are at somewhat of a crossroads when it comes to the goalkeeping position.

Craig Gordon is the club’s undisputed number one, but a knee injury has put the 35-year-old out of action since January and has led to questions about his long-term future.

January signing Scott Bain, brought in to provide some cover for Gordon, has impressed massively after being given a chance, and that has contributed to those questions about Gordon.

So, they can either remain faithful to their number one Gordon, who could possibly perform at the top level for another one or two years, or they could move on from him this summer and plump for someone younger.

While Bain’s name is obviously in the frame to replace Gordon, that should not rule out any other possible replacements between the sticks for the Hoops.

And there is one name in particular that looks like he could be a perfect fit for Celtic this summer when he inevitably moves on from his current club, Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet.

As reported by Belgian outlet DH, Mignolet is planning on leaving Anfield this summer after being usurped as the club’s number one by Loris Karius.

The 30-year-old has been at the Premier League giants for several years now, and a move to start afresh north of the border would be perfect for all involved.

Celtic would be getting a tried-and-tested Premier League standard goalkeeper, and Mignolet would be getting a new start with a club where he can win silverware on a regular basis.

While the Belgium international stopper does have his doubters, he is still a better option than all of the Hoops’ current options, including Gordon.

You don’t make 245 appearances and keep 81 clean sheets in the Premier League if you are a bad player, and Mignolet certainly has what it takes to succeed in Scotland.

It would also mean a reunion with Brendan Rodgers, under whom Mignolet almost won the Premier League in 2013/14, and that adds another positive dimension to this potential move.
