Rangers are keeping tabs on Preston North End striker Louis Moult ahead of a possible summer swoop, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper report that the Light Blues have asked the EFL club to keep them informed of any developments regarding the former Motherwell striker, who has struggled to make an impact in the Championship since his January move.

The Mail claim that a lack of first-team action for Moult – he has started just three times since joining – has alerted several clubs to the possibility of him moving on again at the end of the season.

It is said that the 25-year-old would be open to assessing his options in the summer with a quick return to Scotland on the table, and Rangers are among the possible destinations.

Good move for Rangers?

Absolutely.

While Moult has struggled badly in the Championship since his move, the striker showed during his time at Motherwell that he can rip up the Premiership when he is on form.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked to a move to Rangers last summer, but Pedro Caixinha decided against it, with the decision coming back to bite him as Moult scored twice to knock them out of the League Cup.

A move in the summer would bring guaranteed Premiership goals to Ibrox, with Moult’s eye-catching record of 50 goals in 98 Motherwell appearances demonstrating exactly what he can do.

Likely to happen?

It depends what happens between now and the end of the season.

If Moult continues to be on the periphery at Deepdale, then it would look likely he would move on.

Rangers will then have to beat off the inevitable competition for his signature.

But, they do have a decent chance of doing that, with players now aware that the Light Blues will be serious title contenders next season.
