Ian Wright has shared that he thinks West Ham shouldn’t have let Dimitri Payet and Andre Ayew leave the club.

The former Arsenal player delivered his verdict on the Hammers’ fans protests that happened during the 3-0 defeat against Burnley, and revealed he understood why they were angry at their club.

Wright went on to slam the Hammers’ transfer business as David Sullivan had failed to sign the big-money marquee signings that were promised, especially in January.

The pundit added that it wasn’t just who they have failed to sign, but pointed to the departures of Payet and Ayew as being mistakes.

“Dimitri Payet is a superstar and he was sold, Andre Ayew isn’t but is still decent, and he was sold — to relegation rivals Swansea,” said Wright in his column for The Sun.

“These are players they should be keeping and adding to, not letting slip through their fingers.

“Those upstairs have got to shoulder much of the blame for that.”

OPINION

Wright did condemn the fact that some supporters ran on to the pitch during the game against Burnley, but it’s nice to hear a pundit finally acknowledge that fans were justified in protesting the club. The Hammers have had a woeful season, in what was meant to be the start of their bright future. David Moyes’ side are in danger of being relegated this season, as they sit only three points above the drop zone. The Hammers should have never found themselves facing life in the Championship, as their owners promised to add quality players to the squad in order to have success. However their January business proved that the owners had failed to keep their word, as the arrival of Patrice Evra suggested that the club weren’t looking to the future.
