Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a summer swoop for Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney, according to Sport Bild

The German newspaper report that the 26-year-old Denmark international has designs on a move to the Premier League, and Spurs have now shown interest in making that happen.

Bild claim that Bundesliga side Bremen are resigned to letting him go this summer and are waiting for a big offer to come in for the versatile midfielder.

It is said that Tottenham would have to splash at least £13million for Delaney, who is an international teammate of Spurs star Christian Eriksen.

The midfielder has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Bremen so far this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

There is no doubt that Delaney is a good player, having earned 24 caps for Denmark and carving out a career in the Bundesliga with Bremen.

However, it is hard to see what the 26-year-old would bring to the Tottenham midfield that they don’t already have.

Central midfield is one area where Spurs are not really lacking, so unless a player leaves the club this summer then this move would make little sense.

One positive is Delaney’s versatility, with him being able to play both defensive and attacking midfield, while also being deployed on the flank occasionally, and the low £13million price tag is another plus.

Likely to happen?

Tottenham are the only team mentioned in the Bild report, but you would think that there would be other interested teams across Europe.

That being said, if Spurs are serious in their interest, then they would surely blow everyone else out the water.

Whether that will happen is unknown, and this is one that we will have to wait on.
