Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a summer move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to A Bola

The Portuguese football outlet report that the Tottenham recruitment department have identified the versatile 23-year-old as a potential midfield target this summer.

A Bola claim however that the Sporting midfielder has an eye-watering £87million release clause in his contract after signing new terms with the club last summer.

It is said that any transfer this summer would no doubt happen for less than that astronomical fee, with Spurs now in a good position to snap up the Portugal international assist king.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

Yes.

Fernandes is having an incredible season for Sporting, having scored 13 times and provided 16 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions so far.

The 23-year-old has been rewarded for his club displays with his first caps for Portugal, having appeared in their last four matches.

While the £87million release clause would represent a massively inflated transfer, it is said that a deal could be struck for much less, and that would be a solid move for Spurs.

Likely to happen?

This depends on the price at which Sporting are willing to do business.

While the report claims that a deal may be struck at a lower figure than his release clause, no indication is given to suggest exaclty what that fee would be.

There are too many unknowns at the moment to suggest whether this one is likely to happen, but Tottenham are obviously trying to position themselves well in the hunt for the talented midfielder.
