Shin Tae-Yong has shared that he fears Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son could burnout by the time the World Cup starts.

South Korea’s head coach revealed that he is concerned that Son will not be able to replicate his current impressive Spurs performances in the summer for his nation, as he will be physically fatigued.

“I hope Son can perform in the World Cup like he currently does for his club,” said Shin ahead of naming his 23-man squad for March friendlies against Northern Ireland and Poland, as quoted by ESPN.

“But I’m concerned that Son’s red-hot form could cool down around the World Cup period.

“For most Europe-based players, they are used to getting in shape in August before the new season starts.

“I’m really worried that Son’s form might go down from May, with his concentration waning and him becoming physically fatigued.”

Son has already played 43 times this season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and has been in sublime form, scoring 18 goals in his outings.

OPINION

Son has played a lot of games for Spurs this season and it would such a shame if he is unable to show his talents on an international level in the summer. The 25-year-old is clearly his nation’s best player and their hopes of doing well in the World Cup rest on his shoulders. Pochettino hasn’t always opted to start Son in games this season, but with Harry Kane out of injured, the Argentinean manager will no doubt rely on Son more. The Spurs attacker played in a central attacking role after Kane was substituted against Bournemouth on Sunday and could lead the line for his side in their FA Cup game against Swansea City.
