Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has worryingly admitted that the club may be resigned to losing several players this summer.

Spurs face a crucial summer transfer window as they head into their new stadium at the start of next season, and look to solidify their status as one of the country’s best teams.

Several of the club’s top players have been linked with moves away this summer, including Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose.

Pochettino has now admitted that there may well be several outgoings in the summer as he spoke about the importance of the summer ahead.

As quoted by football.london in their live blog of the Bournemouth pre-match press conference (13:39), he said: “Look, today the process is to, of course the team is doing fantastic in the last two seasons, the club is doing a fantastic job trying to finish our new stadium and our facilities at the training ground.

“It’s an exciting project but we cannot get ahead of ourselves on one side or another. The balance is so important. The club will be in a very good position in the next few years to start to compete in the last level.

“With the new facilities, the new stadium, the club will be stronger. The basis is there. Now it’s to keep going and try to be clever and work hard. Then it’s a balance. Maybe at the end of the season some players must go, others in. It’s like the process in football at different clubs.”

Tottenham crashed out of the Champions League in midweek at the hands of Italian giants Juventus, who scored twice in three second-half minutes to secure a 2-1 win on the night and a 4-3 win on aggregate.

They now face a trip to the south coast to take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday as they look to bounce back and secure a top four place at the end of the season.

OPINION

While the summer ahead will no doubt be an exciting one for Spurs fans, it will also be a nervous one. The futures of several key stars are up in the air after the club crashed out of the Champions League, although they may be more certain to stay if the club do end that search for silverware with the FA Cup this season. Out of those that have been rumoured with an exit, Kane and Alderweireld are the key men that the club need to retain if they really want to be serious title contenders.
