Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino’s strained relationship with left-back Danny Rose could lead to a swap deal for Manchester United star Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the duo’s relationship has still not recovered from the England international’s explosive interview with The Sun last summer, in which the 27-year-old slammed the club’s transfer policy and claimed he would play up north again in his career.

The Mail report that Pochettino has tried to keep the break in trust as private as possible this season, but it is believed that the Argentine has never fully forgiven Rose for his comments.

It is said meanwhile that Jose Mourinho’s constant criticism of Shaw may open the door for a swap deal between the two clubs this summer.

Tottenham are said to have been interested in Shaw for a long while, while United have been credited with interest in Rose since the summer.

OPINION

This is a deal that has been mooted for a long time, and the Mail just seem to be stating the obvious here. With Pochettino always insisting on unity between his players, and everyone at the club for that matter, a betrayal like Rose’s last summer will have hit hard. No matter what the England man has done between then and now, their relationship was always going to have taken a hit from the interview. Whether that will lead to Rose leaving Tottenham this summer is yet to be seen, but a swap deal for Shaw does seem to make sense, with Pochettino an admirer from their days together at Southampton.
