Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to defeat Watford on Saturday at Anfield but warned the Reds that they have to ensure that win these type of games.
The Sky Sports pundit revealed that he couldn’t imagine anything but a win for Jurgen Klopp’s side against the Hornets and added that the Reds needed the points in order to keep in the race for second place.
“I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win,” said Merson in predictions for Sky Sports.
“I fancy Liverpool to beat Manchester United into second, and this game is important for them to close down the current five-point gap.
“There’s a lot to play for second place, mark my words.
“United have to play Manchester City so the gap will be two points, so Liverpool have to ensure they win these games.”
The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League, five points behind second-placed Manchester United after losing to them last Saturday.

Merson is confident that Manchester United will drop points against their bitters rivals, but it won’t matter if the Reds fail to beat teams like the Hornets. The Reds failed to beat them earlier in the season at Vicarage Road with the game ending as a 3-3 draw. However Klopp’s side should be flattered by Merson’s comments, as he clearly thinks they could end up finishing second. It would be a huge accomplishment for the Reds to finish second in the table, especially when you consider how fragile they have been at the back at certain points during this season. If the Reds finish runners-up to Man City, it could give them the confidence required to win the league next season.
